The Influence of Digital Transformation on the Reconfigurability and Performance of Supply Chains: A Study of the Electronic, Machinery, and Home Appliance Manufacturing Industries in China

In this era of intense global competition, supply chains are facing challenges in coping with emerging market issues. Within diverse industries worldwide, supply chains are experiencing accelerated reconfiguration, with one of the most notable transformations being the digitalization of supply chain operations. But the literature lacks empirical evidence about how digital transformation effectively contributes to it. Thus, this paper delves into the implications of the supply chain digital transformation (SCDT) and supply chain reconfigurability (SCR) on its overall performance. Cross-sectional data from 379 respondents in the machinery, electronics, and home appliance manufacturing industries were collected through a closed questionnaire. Utilizing a hybrid approach involving the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) and fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA), this study employs a cross-validation of the conceptual model. Initially, the PLS-SEM is employed to unveil the direct impact of SCDT on supply chain performance (SCP), as well as the intermediary effect of SCR. Building on this foundation, the fsQCA method is further utilized to investigate the configuration paths that enable enterprises to achieve high SCP under the combined influence of SCR and SCDT. The research results affirm the significant influence of SCDT on SCP. Likewise, the findings highlight the crucial intermediary role of SCR between SCDT and SCP. Ultimately, three distinct configurations driving high supply chain performance are identified: technical, management, and flexible configurations, each playing a unique role.

Technical efficiency in the Malaysian electric and electronic manufacturing industry: A stochastic frontier analysis approach

This study measured the level of technical efficiency (TE) that exerted a significant impact on the Malaysian electric and electronic manufacturing industry, which consists of 13 sub-industries, from 2010 to 2015. Unbalanced panel data from 1880 firms was obtained from the Department of Statistics Malaysia. We used stochastic frontier (SFA) analysis with the transcendental logarithmic approach to estimate the empirical analysis parametric. The maximum likelihood estimated regression of the SFA parameters revealed a high total average TE of 0.944%. Both the manufacturing sub-industries for communications equipment (MSIC 263) and irradiation, electromedical, and electrotherapeutic equipment (MSIC 266) demonstrated the highest average TE value and consistency (0.989%). The consumer electronics manufacturing sub-industry (MSIC 264) yielded a notably lower TE level (0.846%). Changes in TE for all industries were monitored via standard deviation analysis. The low standard deviation (SD) for MSIC 263, 271, and 275 indicated continuous progress and demands for these industries, while the higher SD for MSIC 264, 266, 272, and 273 pointed out major changes that happened within the period. The findings demonstrated that studies on the TE levels indicate that the E&E manufacturing industry has highly expended and continuous efforts to update technologies and human capital innovations. Therefore, the practical implication is to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 9 for sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation by 2030.

A cascaded flowshop joint scheduling problem with makespan minimization: A mathematical model and shifting iterated greedy algorithm

This paper studies a cascaded flowshop joint scheduling problem that has critical applications in the electronic information equipment manufacturing industry but has received limited attention in the scheduling field. The cascaded flowshop joint scheduling problem encompasses both a distributed permutation flowshop scheduling problem and a hybrid flowshop scheduling problem. This paper investigates the efficient scheduling of a set of jobs in two heterogeneous flowshops to minimize the makespan. We present a mixed integer linear programming mathematical model and a shifting iterated greedy algorithm, which constantly changes its search space to explore different solution spaces. Based on the specific characteristics of the problem, a hybrid scheduling approach that combines forward and backward scheduling, a step-by-step destruction and reconstruction operator, and three adaptive reconstructive methods that combine coarse-tuning and fine-tuning are proposed to explore the near-optimal solution. Through comprehensive computational comparison and statistical analysis, the results demonstrate that the proposed shifting iterated greedy algorithm performs significantly better in relative deviation index values at the same CPU running time.

Cost-Based Decision Support System: A Dynamic Cost Estimation of Key Performance Indicators in Manufacturing

An attempt is made to translate five generic key performance indicators (KPIs) into a continuous real-time cost function in a batch order-based manufacturing environment. The challenge of controlling and optimizing resource utilization, production efficiency, product-process quality, environmental impact, and inventory was specified by microelectronics and hard metal composite manufacturers. The motivation is to facilitate decision-making by converting operations management data into dynamic financial cost models. The process of interpreting engineering data of the physical level and operations management level into financial metrics creates a common language between engineers, managers, and financial departments of the company whose common objective is the profitability of the company, each with their own priorities. The proposed method provides a realistic representation of the performance of the system in monetary value. The integration may become an instrument of effective and efficient tactical and strategic collective decision-making. The main outcome is a near real-time formulation and prediction of manufacturing cost with respect to the five KPIs. The resultant cost function is verified according to several production scenarios. The case study demonstrating the proposed cost modeling methodology utilizes real-time and historical information from two different industrial partners in Tungsten metallurgy and electronic circuit manufacturing industries.

Empirical Modeling and Analysis of Process Parameters in Laser Beam Cutting Process

The research has been originated based on the persuasive applications of Lasers in the field of various engineering industries, i.e., Aerospace, Automobile, Electronic and Heavy manufacturing industries to machine a variety of metals and alloys. Out of all the machining processes available, Laser Beam Machining is considered to be the best one, because of the following advantages, i.e., quick material removal, non-contact, non-wearing tool, involves highly localized heat input to the work piece, reduces distortion, and offers no tool wear, diminishes tendency of cracking. The present paper focused mainly on developing the empirical relationships between the input process parameters and the output responses in Laser beam cutting process. Laser power, Cutting Speed, Gas pressure and Focal distance are the input process parameters. The output responses considered are related to the quality of cut. Surface roughness is the first output responses considered and the second one is Burr height. Total number of experiments carried out is 27 based on the Taguchi Design of Experiments. Haste alloy C276 is the work material. Response Surface Methodology is applied for the Experimental data of 31 samples to derive the empirical relationships. Later ANOVA analysis is also carried out to check the adequacy of the derived equations. Based on the ANOVA analysis, the models are classified as significant or not significant. Further the significant models can be used for optimizing the Laser beam cutting process. Once the process is optimized, it can be automated, so that the process can be run very efficiently and economically.

Sustainable environmental technology to reclaim copper from industrial effluent

ABSTRACT Electronic manufacturing industries use copper in highest proportion in metals due to its unique properties. But there is a gap in demand and supply of this metal to the industry due to its huge requirement and lack of its proper recycling of copper containing equipments. Also, effluent generated from these industries carries substantial amount of this metal, which get discharged, and loss of metals to the environment. Present paper discusses about valuable copper metal recovery from industrial effluent in powder form using novel process flow-sheet. At start, bio-adsorptiontechnique was used to recover copper from industrial effluent due to its advantages like low cost, feasible method showing faster kinetics. Datura root powder was found to be potential bio-adsorbent for copper recovery from effluent having 997 mg/g adsorption capacity. It follows second-order rate reaction and Freundlich adsorption isotherm with 0.9711 regression coefficient. Further, copper-enriched solution obtained from this technique was subjected to cementation process using scrap iron rods to get copper powder. This can be used to produce value added products using its ingots. This is one of the approaches towards waste to wealth creation having tremendous potential to get commercialized.

A hybrid generalized TODIM approach for sustainable 3PRLP selection in electronic manufacturing industry

Under the pressure of globalization, environmental protection/resource consumption, and the intensification of market competition, various industries have recognized the significant importance of sustainable supply chain management (SCM), in which reverse logistics (RL) has attracted many concentrations from governments to enterprises and the public. However, it is relatively difficult to operate RL autonomously for most electronic manufacturing companies whose core businesses and competition advantages are not in logistics operations because of limited resources and professional skills. Therefore, it is a good choice to escape from the predicament by selecting an appropriate third-party reverse logistics provider (3PRLP) with professional skills for outsourcing and accomplishing the RL business. Generally, evaluation and selection of a 3PRLP is regarded as a multi-attribute group decision-making (MAGDM) process, in which four aspects, namely, the evaluation attributes system, weight of experts and attributes, preference information representation and alternative ranking method have impacts on the decision-making results. Therefore, this paper constructs an MAGDM framework named generalized TODIM (TOmada de DecisãoInterativa e Multicritério, Portuguese acronym for Interactive multicriteria decision-making) under a hybrid information environment, which includes crisp numbers, interval numbers and fuzzy linguistic terms, for solving the problem. It provides a useful reference for manufacturing enterprises to find out the optimal 3PRLP from many alternatives. In particular, the use of different information forms for different evaluation attributes can not only facilitate decision makers to provide their judgments, but also effectively retain the original decision information as much as possible. Utilization of the generalized TODIM method is helpful for considering the risk attitudes and psychological preference behaviors of decision-makers. Finally, to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method, a case study relates to select a sustainable 3PRLP in an electronic manufacturing company was conducted. The findings show that the company should pay more attention to the attributes related to social responsibility, service quality and cost when selecting alternative 3PRLP under the sustainable SCM environment. It also provides useful suggestions for 3PRLP themselves to improve their competitiveness from these aspects. Moreover, the sensitivity and comparative analysis demonstrated the necessity and superiorities of comprehensively considering weights of experts and attributes, adopting hybrid information formats, and taking into account the risk attitudes and psychological preference behaviors of decision-makers during the evaluation and selection process.

3D CT scan metrology for solder void formation analysis in ball grid array electronic chips

The miniaturization of silicon chips and the complexity of device functionality has driven the electronic packaging industry to find new methods to enhance the reliability of chips at a smaller size. Solutions such as Ball Grid Array (BGA) packages have contributed to the miniaturization of integrated circuits (ICs) and the reduction in their overall size. However, void formation in the solder joint is a weakness that can affect the robustness of the solder joint integrity, both mechanically and electrically. To detect these voids, metrology methods such as 3D Computed tomography (CT)-scan are used. 3D CT-scans can identify submicron-sized void defects in real-time during thermal tests, which can be utilized to help improve the quality control lines in the electronic chip manufacturing industries. In this paper, two types of BGA packages will be evaluated for solder joint properties. The prepared samples will be subject to high temperature stress conditions to assess the mechanism of void formation in solder joint. The prepared samples will be heated at 260 °C four times where the heating lasts 0, 5, 10, and 15 min, respectively. The prepared samples will be mounted on a PCB board and the results of the thermal stress tests will be analyzed using 3D X-ray CT scans. These 3D-CT scans used in tandem with a reconstruction and visualization software suite, will be utilized to observe changes such as void formation in the solder joint after each heating time. Unexpectedly, void size reduced between the first and second heat cycles on both samples but increased for the third and fourth heat cycles then.

Research on Working Capital Management of K Company

In the process of enterprise operation, working capital is related to the supply, production and sales of enterprises. Working capital is the capital that an enterprise needs to use in its normal operation. A good turnover of working capital can drive the turnover of fixed capital, which is not only conducive to the improvement of the profit level of enterprises, but also conducive to the goal of maximizing profits. Therefore, the management of working capital is very important for enterprises. With the continuous development of China's socialist market economy and fierce market competition, China's electronic industry stands out. China's electronics industry not only has a huge domestic market, but also China is a global manufacturing power of electronic products. Due to the rise of China's manufacturing industry, the transformation of global electronic industry from vertical structure to horizontal structure, and the increasingly detailed division of value chain, China has become one of the main production bases of global electronic manufacturing, which has also promoted the rapid growth of China's electronic manufacturing industry. Following this, the electronic manufacturing industry is also facing more severe challenges. Because the management of working capital is related to the profit level of enterprises and directly affects the survival and development of enterprises, it is increasingly urgent for the electronic industry to pursue efficient capital management.

Influencing factors and improvement paths of manufacturing innovation performance: Configuration analysis based on TOE framework.

Innovation is the first driving force to lead development, how to improve manufacturing innovation performance has become a hot topic. Based on 47 listed companies in the computer, communication and other electronic equipment manufacturing industry in the A-share market, this paper adopted the Fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to explore the influencing factors of technology, organization and environment on the innovation performance of manufacturing industry and the improvement path. The findings are as follows: (1) A single condition is not a necessary condition for high innovation performance in manufacturing industry, but government support plays a key role in improving innovation performance in manufacturing industry. (2) There are two improvement paths for high innovation performance in manufacturing industry, which are specifically explained as "technology-environment dual improvement path" and "technology-organization-environment collaborative improvement path". (3) The improvement of innovation performance in the manufacturing industry is the result of multiple factors, showing the characteristics of "all paths lead to the same destination". Different manufacturing enterprises have different paths to improve innovation performance based on their actual conditions. Based on these findings, this study may provide some implications for the effective improvement of manufacturing innovation performance.

An effective adaptive iterated greedy algorithm for a cascaded flowshop joint scheduling problem

This paper addresses a novel scheduling problem, namely the cascaded flowshop joint scheduling problem (CFJSP), which has critical applications in the modern electronic information equipment manufacturing industry. The CFJSP is composed of a distributed permutation flowshop scheduling problem and hybrid flowshop scheduling problem. This paper considers how to arrange a variety of jobs for the two flowshops together to minimize total flowtime. We present a mixed integer linear programming mathematical model and an effective adaptive iterated greedy (AIG) algorithm with a decomposition and collaboration mechanism, which optimizes each production phase sequentially and ultimately optimizes the whole process. Combining the problem-specific characteristic, an adaptive inverse bounded heuristic, an adaptive bounded range local search, and an odd/even random insertion reconstruction mechanism are proposed to explore more valuable space. Comprehensive computational experiments and statistical analyses are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed AIG. The experimental results show that the proposed AIG significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art competing algorithms from the literature in relative deviation index values at the same CPU running time.

Factors affecting product life cycle in electronic enterprises – evidence from an emerging country

Introduction:This paper is the product of the study “Factors affecting product life cycle in electronic enterprises – Evidence from an emerging country” developed at the Electric Power University and National Economics University between 2020 and 2022.Problem:The electronic manufacturing industry is increasingly developing in emerging markets and integrating into the global economy. The life cycle of electronic products is shorter and requires management.Objective:The paper aims to study factors that affect the product life cycle in Vietnamese electronic enterpri-ses. The study helps managers in cost management.Methodology:The paper used a survey of non-probability sampling, and applied regression analysis to examine Vietnamese electronic enterprises. The analysis is done by SPSS and Smart PLS software.Results:The research results indicate that technology, consumer trends, and R&D are factors affecting product life cycle and post-sale service, and disposal has no impact on electronic products’ life cycle. This could be ex-plained by the fact that electronic products are constantly updating and their life cycle is short, that post-sales service does not play a key role, and that waste treatment after sales is not taken seriously by manufacturers, customers, or other related parties. Conclusion:The results give some meaningful insights for electronics or other enterprises in Vietnam to use effective management of product life cycle. Originality:The results of this paper provide practical insights into the management of product life cycle and cost management of product life cycle for researchers and managers.Limitations:The research model should be expanded and the sample size increased to get an overview and greater insight.

The impact of green finance on the optimization of industrial structure: Evidence from China.

Green finance promotes the optimization of industrial structure and continuous improvement of ecological environment by supporting the development of green industries. Based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2012 to 2020, this paper uses the entropy weight TOPSIS method to measure the development level of green finance and the level of industrial structure optimization in China, and constructs a panel data model to empirically test the impact of green finance on the upgrading of China's industrial structure. The study finds that there is still an imbalance and insufficiency in the development of green finance and industrial structure optimization in China. From 2012 to 2020, the development level of green finance and the level of industrial structure optimization in China have been continuously rising, but there is obvious heterogeneity, showing an eastern>central>western spatial pattern. Empirical analysis results show that at the significance level of 1‰, the development of green finance has a significant promoting effect on the rationalization and upgrading of the industrial structure. However, there is significant heterogeneity in the impact of green finance on industrial structure optimization. In terms of regional heterogeneity, at the significance level of 1‰, the role of green finance in promoting the optimization of industrial structure in central and western China is higher than that in eastern China, and the impact of green finance on China's industrial structure shows a spatial pattern of western>central>eastern China. In terms of industry heterogeneity, at the significance level of 1‰, green finance has a significant promoting effect on the development of green industries, and a significant inhibiting effect on the development of high-energy-consuming industries. Specifically, in the green industry, green finance has the greatest promoting effect on the communication and other electronic equipment manufacturing industry; in the high-energy-consuming industry, green finance has the greatest inhibiting effect on the black metal smelting and rolling processing industry, and the smallest impact on the petroleum, coal and other fuel processing industry. Finally, based on this, policy suggestions for green finance to support the optimization of industrial structure are proposed from two dimensions: government and financial institutions.

Analyzing the Financial Risk Factors Impacting the Economic Benefits of the Consumer Electronic Goods Manufacturing Industry in India

Financial market instability and losses driven by changes in stock prices, currencies, interest rates, and other factors are the primary causes of economic risk. One of the risk types with the highest priority for every business is financial risk. The consumer electronics manufacturing sector’s focus on rising technology is driving important growth and includes manufacturers of smartwatches, stylish home products, and smart speakers. Risks can arise from the inability to meet functional requirements and business expectations throughout the life cycle, from original formation to final disposal, while supplying competitive electronic products. All of this highlights the necessity and potential of thorough study in the field of financial risk in economic growth. With the help of owners and managers of top electronic manufacturing industries in India, this study’s goal is to examine and evaluate several aspects of financial risk in economic benefits. The main factors of the financial risk covered under the study include liquidity risk, market risk, credit risk, and operational risk. Financial risks also arise from a combination of macroeconomic factors, including changing interest rates on the market and the potential for default by sizable businesses or industries. Financial stability is of the utmost importance to a commercial enterprise to maintain its position and status in the commercial environment. All of this demonstrates the value and need for rigorous research in the area of financial risk affecting the performance of the organization. This study intends to analyze several components of financial risk in consumer electronic goods manufacturers in India. Various aspects discussed in the study revolving around financial risk management are an important factor and demand the maximum attention of the organization.

Impact of Diversity of Executive Team Career Experience and Cooperation Openness on Breakthrough Innovation Performance

In the era of rapid technological iteration in the digital economy, breakthrough innovation is the main source of core competitive advantage for enterprises. Based on Upper Echelons theory and Resource-based theory, using A-share listed companies in the computer, communication, and other electronic equipment manufacturing industries from 2010 to 2021 as research samples, this study explores the impact of diversity of executive team career experience on breakthrough innovation performance, and examines the mediating effect of cooperation openness and the moderating effect of absorptive capacity. The results indicate that the diversity of career experience in executive teams not only has a significant positive impact on breakthrough innovation performance, but also has a significant positive impact on cooperation openness; The cooperation openness has a significant positive impact on breakthrough innovation performance, and plays a partial mediating role between the diversity of career experience of executive teams and breakthrough innovation performance. The absorptive capacity positively regulates the relationship between cooperation openness and breakthrough innovation performance. This study provides a theoretical reference for enterprises to improve breakthrough innovation performance from the perspective of executive experience.

Work Life Management Among Women Employees Working in Shifts With Reference to Electronic Manufacturing Industry in Chennai

Objective: The aim of this paper is to identify the nature of Work-Life Balance management practices among the women employees in an industry sector that employs women to be working in shifts.   Theoretical framework: The study employs concepts from the Role theory of management of multiple roles by people and Spill-over theory postulating the transfer of skills and issues across roles to be the variables impacting a worker’s satisfaction in work and personal life, which in the case of target population relates to family in the cultural context.   Method: This study was conducted to measure the impact of Authentic Leadership, Co-worker support, and Family support to be the independent variables and Work Satisfaction as well as Family Satisfaction as a Dependent variable in the measurement model while the Work to Family Enrichment and Family to Work Enrichment to be the mediating variable constructs. Data was collected in factories employing women workforce in production shifts since working in shifts. The 5-point Likert scale is used to prepare the questionnaire which was circulated to 180 participants working in these factories in Tamilnadu and 150 were found to be complete in data for doing analysis.   Results and Discussion: The estimated model using the Structural Equation Modelling approach showed a definite association with both dependent and independent variables with moderation effects. The effect of Family Support on Work Satisfaction is not directly evidenced but is visible through Family to Work Enrichment. Other variables had significant direct effects.   Implications of the research: The studies infer that the factors of authentic leadership, Co-workers support and Family Support provide for effective work and family satisfaction either directly or through manifestation of Work to Family Enrichment and Family to Work Enrichment effects.   Originality/value: This study identifies the gap that there is not enough study and literature available especially connected to the Work-Life Balance of Women in the Electronics Industry mainly working in shifts in India as well as Globally.

Optimal design of S2‐EWMA control chart for short production runs

AbstractIn recent fast pace smart manufacturing environment, the short production runs (SPR) control charts offer a higher degree of flexibility compared to the traditional control charts. This is due to Phase I data collection not needed for SPR control charts and this eases practitioners in estimating the parameters and setting up the control charts. This paper proposes the methods to optimally design the SPR S‐chart and SPR S2‐EWMA control chart for process variance monitoring in terms of truncated average run length (TARL), truncated standard deviation of the run length (TSDRL), and expected truncated average run length (ETARL) performance measures. The optimal parameters in minimizing the TARL and ETARL values for SPR S2‐EWMA control chart are presented. The control chart performances are compared between both the SPR S‐chart and SPR S2‐EWMA control charts. Results show that SPR S2‐EWMA control chart has a higher chart sensitivity and it triggers the out‐of‐control signal faster than the SPR S‐chart. An illustration using the real electronic manufacturing industry data is given in this paper to explain the implementation of the SPR S‐chart and SPR S2‐EWMA control chart.

An integrated Best–Worst Method and Interpretive Structural Modeling approach for assessing the barriers to circular economy implementation

The Circular Economy (CE) concept has emerged as a promising alternative for addressing the serious challenges faced by industries with high involvement in environmental pollution and waste generation. CE can contribute to minimizing waste generation and ecological degradation and ensuring environmental protection while maximizing the utilization of the available resources. Although research has analyzed the CE from different perspectives, insufficient emphasis in the extant empirical literature is given to Electronics Manufacturing (EM) industries in emerging economies. The overall generation of electronic and e-waste has grown exponentially, mainly due to the massive increase in the sale and use of modern electronic gadgets. This study aims to identify and prioritize the barriers to implementing CE in the EM industry and analyze their interrelationships. The process begins by identifying 15 significant barriers from the literature review. An integrated Best–Worst Method (BWM) and Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) with Matrice d’Impacts Croisés Multiplication Aappliquée à un Cclassement (MICMAC) framework were then utilized to prioritize the barriers based on their significance level. Lastly, we identify systemic interrelationships among these barriers. We show that the three topmost significant barriers behind CE adoption are the need for high initial investment and financial backing, lack of proper legislative support, and lack of support from top management. This study contributes to the current body of CE knowledge, guiding managers and policymakers in emerging economies to take proper actions for improving sustainability and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through sustainable and responsible resource utilization.
